EDUCATING THE WORLD FOR JESUS CHRIST
"Celebrating Over 45 Years of Christian Educational Ministry"
Since 1980

The Northwestern Theological Seminary system of education began in Detroit, Michigan (USA) in 1980 as an educational ministry of our Presiding Bishop, Dr. Howard M. Sarkela and Christian Alliance Ministries. Founded over 45 years ago, our educational ministry provided its first curriculum at the Detroit Christian Guidance Center in the Scripps Mansion on Trumbull Avenue. At the Guidance Center, six instructors taught a college-level, Bible-centered curriculum to residents in a spiritual growth program, leading to a certificate in Religious Education. Dr. Sarkela initiated this educational program while serving as a Chaplain.
As the internet gained more presence worldwide, Northwestern recognized the need to launch online programs. And so, the Seminary began operating its online programs successfully, reaching students around the world. This move aligned with the overall objective and mission of this educational ministry: to equip men and women to help increase the Kingdom of God through Bible-centered programs that would impact the world for Jesus Christ.
Although the seminary launched online, students still had to submit assignments by postal mail, making completion much longer because of time lost in mail transit.
Today, Christian Alliance Ministries has grown to include thousands of affiliate Churches and hundreds of thousands of affiliate members worldwide. Northwestern Theological Seminary continues to teach and spread the good news of the Gospel through accredited online degree programs and Christian education.
The Online Seminary now operates its programs using the Moodle System, a world-renowned and widely used course management system used by major universities worldwide, including UCLA, LSU, and the University of Canterbury. Known to our Seminary community as the NTSMoodle, this new Course Management System was modified to fit Northwestern Theological Seminary's objectives. With advances in modern technology and the implementation of accelerated degree programs, students can now complete their degrees in anywhere from 3 months to 1 year.
